Dimensional Control for Curtain Orders
Curtain dimensions affect installation, floor clearance, panel coverage and hanging appearance. A small difference in measuring method can create a significant issue across a hotel project, private label program or repeat wholesale order.
Drapestra confirms the finished measurement method before sampling and bulk production. Curtain type, heading style, fabric behavior, panel configuration and installation system are considered when defining the required width and drop.
Confirming the Measurement Reference
The buyer and manufacturer must use the same measurement reference. Curtain length may be measured from the top fabric edge, eyelet, hook position or another agreed point. Width may refer to the curtain laid flat, the usable finished panel width or the width after pleating.
Before production, the specification should identify:
- Finished width per panel
- Finished drop or total length
- Single-panel or paired-panel configuration
- Heading height and construction
- Eyelet, hook or tape reference point
- Side and bottom hem dimensions
- Required fullness or pleated width
- Agreed dimensional tolerance

Measurement After Cutting and Sewing
Cutting dimensions include allowances for side hems, bottom hems, heading construction and joining where required. These allowances must correspond to the approved finished size rather than being treated as the final curtain measurement.
The fabric cutting process establishes the initial panel dimensions. After sewing and finishing, the curtain is measured again because folding, hemming, fabric relaxation and heading installation can affect the result.
Measurements are taken on a suitable flat surface or through an agreed hanging method. The same method should be used for the approved sample and bulk inspection to avoid inconsistent results.
Width, Drop and Heading Checks
Finished width is checked across the relevant reference points without artificially stretching or compressing the fabric. Long curtains may be measured at more than one position where fabric distortion is a concern.
Drop is checked from the confirmed upper reference to the bottom edge. The inspector also reviews whether the hem is level and whether both sides of the curtain have a consistent length.
For eyelet or hook curtains, inspection may include:
- Heading depth
- Distance from the top edge to the eyelet or hook
- Eyelet spacing
- Hook or heading-tape position
- Finished drop after accessory installation
The measuring method is recorded in the specification or approved sample when a project requires a particular installation result.
Paired Panels and Size Consistency
Curtains supplied as pairs require more than an individual size check. Both panels should be compared for finished length, heading position, hem depth and overall hanging balance.
For orders containing several sizes or room schedules, panels should be identified clearly to prevent mixing. Size labels, packaging marks and carton information are checked against the order breakdown before packing.
Tolerances and Fabric Behavior
Dimensional tolerance should be agreed according to curtain size, material and construction. Sheer, velvet, blackout, linen-look and layered curtains do not behave identically during cutting, sewing or relaxation.
An appropriate tolerance is confirmed during sample approval instead of applying an unsupported universal figure. Unusually long panels, heavy fabrics, complex headings or project-specific installation requirements may need additional checking.

Bulk Inspection and Corrective Action
Measurements are checked during production so repeated deviations can be identified before the entire order is finished. Inspection records may include the style, size, color and measured result according to the agreed order requirements.
Completed curtains also proceed through finished curtain inspection for stitching, appearance, accessories and packing readiness.
