Samples Reduce Risk Before Bulk Production
Drapestra develops curtain samples for importers, wholesalers, private label brands, hospitality suppliers and commercial project buyers. Sampling converts drawings, reference products and written requirements into a physical curtain that can be checked before bulk production.
A sample should confirm more than appearance. Fabric, finished dimensions, heading construction, sewing, color, accessories, labels and packaging may all affect the final order.
Standard samples normally require 3–5 working days. Customized samples typically take 7–15 working days, depending on material availability, processing requirements and the number of details that need development.
Information Required Before Sampling
A useful sample starts with a defined application and specification. Buyers can provide a technical sheet, drawing, reference photographs, original sample or a combination of these materials.
The initial brief should preferably include:
- Curtain type and intended application
- Fabric composition or reference quality
- Finished width and drop length
- Single-panel or paired-panel configuration
- Heading style and accessories
- Color, pattern or artwork
- Logo, labels and packaging requirements
- Estimated bulk order quantity
Incomplete specifications can result in repeated revisions. If certain details are undecided, they should be identified before sampling so suitable options can be prepared without changing unrelated parts of the product.

Fabric and Color Confirmation
The same color can appear different on blackout, sheer, linen-look, velvet or jacquard fabrics. Fabric weight, construction, finish and backing can also affect drape, light transmission, sewing and finished dimensions.
Before producing a complete customized curtain, we may first confirm available fabric swatches, color references or pattern samples. This is especially important when the order requires a specific hand feel, blackout result, printed repeat or coordinated colorway.
When material selection is the main development issue, our Custom Fabric Selection page explains the relevant confirmation points.
Prototype Construction and Measurement
After the material and main specifications are defined, the sample is cut, sewn and finished according to the requested construction. The sample team checks heading dimensions, eyelet or hook positions, seams, hems, accessories and overall appearance.
Finished width and drop length are measured after sewing because folding, hemming and fabric behavior can influence the final dimensions. For paired curtains, both panels should also be checked for consistent size, color and pattern direction.
Any differences from the requested specification should be recorded rather than adjusted informally during bulk production.
Branding and Packaging Samples
For OEM and private label orders, the sample may include woven labels, care labels, size labels, hangtags, barcode stickers and individual packaging. Printed artwork, label content and sewing positions should be reviewed carefully.
A packaging mock-up may be sufficient during an early development stage. A complete packaging sample is recommended before production when the program includes printed retail boxes, inserts, multiple barcodes or specific folding requirements.
Sample Review and Approval
Buyers should evaluate the sample against the quotation and specification, not only against photographs. The review should cover:
- Fabric, color and pattern
- Finished measurements
- Heading and sewing construction
- Light-control or other agreed performance
- Logo and label information
- Folding and packaging presentation
Feedback should identify the exact area requiring modification and include revised dimensions, artwork or reference images where applicable. Approved details are recorded as the basis for the Bulk Production Process.
Changes, Cost and Lead-Time Considerations
Sample cost and development time depend on fabric sourcing, dimensions, construction, printing or embroidery, accessories, branding and packaging. A revised sample may be required if changes affect the material, curtain structure or finished measurements.
Approval delays and late design changes can also affect material purchasing and bulk production scheduling. Complex customized orders normally require more time than repeat orders based on an existing approved specification.
Moving from Sample to Bulk Production
Bulk production begins after the sample, commercial terms and order details are approved. The confirmed reference should include the final specification, approved materials, measurements, workmanship, artwork, label files and packaging instructions.
Production and finished-product inspections then compare the order against these confirmed requirements. Buyers can review the final inspection scope on our Finished Curtain Inspection page.
